Injuries & Accidents

Looking for an alternative to pain meds?

If you’ve ever had an injury, you know it can change everything about your life, and everything you know about your body, for a while. You also know how many compensatory things happen inside the body because of your original injury. I can help you understand your injuries, teach you how to reclaim your body and help you prevent things from happening in the future.

First, I always support getting the opinion of a doctor or physical therapist when you have an injury, or pain. It’s crucial to know exactly what you are working with so you can heal properly.

If you have a minor injury your doctor might not prescribe physical therapy. Just because your injury doesn’t require any time in physical therapy, it doesn’t mean there isn’t therapeutic work that can be done. It just means you are okay to continue a safe exercise program, with doctor approval of course.

When my clients come to me with injuries of this nature, I work to establish stability in their bodies. From there, we work together to discover the original injury and what might have caused it. This ranges anywhere from accidents, to repetitive stress and overuse, or postural deviations that cause pain over time. Once we discover the root cause, we can work to unravel movement patterns that contribute to injuries and build new ones that will protect your body while making you stronger.

Sometimes a minor injury can even be a gift as you can use it as an opportunity to learn about your body and how it moves. This is the best way to keep you healthy, active, and pain free during your life. With new, and deeper, body awareness you can work toward injury prevention. It’s great knowledge to have and provides important tools suitable for all people from professional athletes to people who just work out to stay healthy.

If you have a major injury or were in an accident, you will most likely be prescribed physical therapy to begin the healing process. Once you graduate from PT, there will still be work you can do to continue everything you learned during your time there. I think of my work as an extension of traditional physical therapy. I work closely with my clients’ doctors and physical therapists to help them progress in a way that is deemed safe. We will also work to prevent compensations and imbalances that may come up from protecting the injured area over time. This is a holistic and full-bodied approach to physical healing that often leaves you feeling better than you felt before the injury.
