Chronic Pain

Free your mind from the effects of pain by using your body

You’re probably here because you search for “Exercise Chronic Pain”

Most of my clients have come to me because they suffer from chronic pain or a chronic condition. And they are usually so fed up with not feeling at home in their bodies and have tried many different things already. My mission is to help people reclaim a sense of ease with movement and a feeling of connection in their bodies.

Chronic pain creates a vicious cycle. You feel pain so you feel the need to rest and take it easy. While pain can be an indicator that you need a day off, resting for too long makes your body stiff and the pain actually gets worse. Then, you repeat the cycle. It’s important to find a healthy balance between movement and rest and I work diligently with my clients to create an exercise plan that works for their bodies and their pain levels.

This is never a one size fits all plan either. It’s really important to work with an expert that has taken the time to research your condition and learned appropriate movement techniques. I am a firm believer in working with your doctors and other medical professionals to create a plan that works for you.

Exercise for Chronic Illness

My role will always be supportive and adaptable as you progress and heal. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, where you feel pain is not always where the source of the pain is. I help my clients locate the source of their pain by investigating their movement patterns and teaching them how their bodies should function. It is a long-term fix which means it takes time and patience, however, the results will be worth it, I assure you!

Many studies have shown that both Pilates and dance are very helpful for chronic conditions like fibromyalgia, arthritis, degenerative spinal conditions, and other inflammatory responses in the body. This is because you can do light and gentle movements that match your comfort level while challenging yourself to progress. It’s also due to the focus on proper breathing. Learning how to breathe deeply and correctly can ease pain in the body.

It’s also because the movements are more full-bodied and complex which promotes connective tissue health while you move. There are also so many exercise options, variations, and modifications.

There is a little something for everyone in the Pilates system and dancing is a great way to explore your physical body and creativity at the same time. Both of these mindful movement activities positively affect your mood and can change your relationship with your body for the better.
